Meet The Staff

Atwood Family Medical Center has been serving the local community of Chesapeake and the greater Hampton Roads area for more than 25 years. Our staff consists of a dedicated group of individuals who care deeply about your needs and comfort. Our staff is well certified for their positions and boast several awards and affiliations; Dr. Atwood has been named as one of the “Top Docs of Hampton Roads” by Coastal Virginia Magazine, and Dr. deGuzman-Berube was a member of the American Medical Women’s Association just to name a few.

Dr. Ronald Atwood

Dr. Ronald Atwood

Dr. Atwood obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1987. He completed residency in family medicine from Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine and was certified by the American Academy of Family Practice in 1990.

Dr. Atwood opened Atwood Family Medical Center in 1990. His special interests include adolescent and men’s health. However, he enjoys working with patients of all ages. Dr. Atwood started as an associate professor in the department of Community and Family Medicine at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2004 and teaches to this day. He is also an adjunct professor at the College of Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.

Dr. Atwood presented at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Conference, “A New Triangle: Family Therapy and Family Medicine Meet Multiple Personality Disorder.” His published work has appeared in Medical Economics magazine, “The Doctor Who Saved My Life – and Shaped My Career,” in 1998.

Dr. Atwood has been named as one of the “Top Docs of Hampton Roads” from 2012 to 2015 by Coastal Virginia Magazine. He also Received the Lloyed Damsey Award of Outstanding Resident in Family Medicine in 1990.

Dr. Eleanor deGuzman-Berube

Dr. Eleanor deGuzman-Berube

Dr. Eleanor deGuzman-Berube received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Gettysburg College in 1989 and her post-graduate, baccalaureate pre-medicine program at Columbia University in New York in 1990. Dr. deGuzman-Berube went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine from St. George School of Medicine in Grenada in 1995. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Maryland in 1998, where she was awarded recognition as Chief Resident.

Dr. deGuzman-Berube joined Atwood Family Medical Center in November of 1998 with a desire to provide comprehensive care to patients and their families and improve their quality of life. She has been board certified in family practice since 2006. She is a member of the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Academy of Family Physicians. She was a member of the American Medical Women’s Association in 2011.

Dr. deGuzman-Berube takes a major interest in all areas of medicine, focusing on women’s health issues and sports medicine.

Megan Cannon

Megan Cannon

Megan Cannon, RN, MSN, FNP-C earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Old Dominion University in 2008 and her Master of Science in Nursing at ODU in 2010. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Ms. Cannon joined Atwood Family Medical Center in 2011. Her prior experience includes the neonatal intensive care unit at CHKD and the emergency department at the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She is a member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.

Jarrod Elsass

Dr. Jarrod Elsass

Jarrod Elsass, RN, MSN, FNP-C earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Liberty University in 2012 and his Master of Science in Nursing at Maryville University in 2016. He is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Mr. Elsass joined Atwood Family Medical Center in 2017. His prior experience includes the pediatric intensive care unit at CHKD and the intensive care unit at the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Stephanie Holton

Stephanie Holton

Stephanie Holton, RN, MSN, FNP-C earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Shenandoah University in 2011 and her Master’s of Science in Nursing at Simmons University in 2018. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Ms. Holton joined Atwood Family Medical Center in 2019. Her areas of interest include chronic disease management and heart health. Her prior experience includes the cardiac intermediate unit at Vidant Medical Center in North Carolina and medical step down at Winchester Medical Center. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
